Mechanical Engineer / Technician Contractor (Part Time)

Location: Madison or Milwaukee, WI (or immediately surrounding areas)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a part-time generalist Mechanical Engineer / Technician to join our team as a contractor. In this role, you will support our hardware engineering team in the development of cutting-edge fitness technology products. Your contributions will include prototyping, testing, diagnostics, and field support to ensure the successful execution of mechanical aspects within our product lineup.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembly and Integration:
    • Support the assembly and integration of mechanical components into fitness technology products.
    • Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to ensure seamless integration with electrical and software systems.
  • Diagnostics & Sustaining:
    • Troubleshooting existing product (field returns, customer issues, etc.) and bring insights into the team to facilitate continuous improvement
    • Be comfortable operating software diagnostics or creating SOPs/knowledge base information to facilitate field troubleshooting of reported customer issues
    • Work with other engineers to augment knowledge base and issue register related to field behavior of product and corrective actions
  • Testing and Analysis:
    • Design and develop test fixtures to facilitate mechanical testing to assess the performance, durability, and safety of fitness technology products.
    • Assist in analyzing test results, providing feedback to the engineering team for design improvements.
    • Participate in engineering discussions (with our suppliers and teams in Asia) around findings, review action (where warranted) and support with documentation or other SOPs as needed
  • Prototyping and Fabrication:
    • Assist in the creation of prototypes for mechanical components and systems
    • Utilize prototyping tools, machinery, and techniques to bring designs to life for testing and evaluation.
  • Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical systems, addressing issues identified during testing or product use.
    • Collaborate with engineers to implement design changes for enhanced performance.
  • Documentation:
    • Create and maintain detailed documentation of mechanical prototypes, designs, and testing procedures.
    • Contribute to the preparation of technical manuals for internal use and end-users.
    • Write SOPs

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Eager to grow and learn within the role.
  • Possess the necessary qualifications to perform the duties described above
  • Available for working 20 hours/week as a contractor (1099)
  • Occasional travel is required
